SAP Solution Manager is replaced

For over 20 years, SAP Solution Manager has been an indispensable component of many SAP landscapes. Since the first release in 2003, functions from the IT Service Management (ITSM) and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) areas have been continuously integrated, so that Solution Manager was certified for all ITIL processes by Pink Verify in 2013. However, more modern solutions for ALM and ITSM or Enterprise Service Management (ESM) are now available. Since 2020, SAP has been offering SAP Cloud ALM, a solution for ALM processes in cloud environments.

SAP Solution Manager 7.2 will only be supported in mainstream support until the end of 2027. After that, it can only be used as part of an extended support agreement. SAP therefore recommends switching to SAP Cloud ALM and setting up ALM processes in line with the requirements of a hybrid SAP landscape. Most ALM services are already available in SAP Cloud ALM or will be implemented before the end of support.

However, SAP Cloud ALM does not support ITSM processes such as incident and problem management, and there is no other SAP solution for this. Companies that have implemented their ITSM processes in SAP Solution Manager need to transfer them to a new solution.
