Your individual software projects require individual approaches.

Methodological expertise for agile software projects

The planning, realisation and implementation of software projects requires comprehensive methodological expertise. In every project and development situation, we decide on the most suitable method and approach.

Targeted methodological expertise

The Scrum process model is used in agile software development in particular. New software releases can be created faster, more agile and more efficiently. With the help of Scrum, large requirements are broken down into several small user stories, thereby achieving fine-grained prioritisation. This ensures that the most important functions are always implemented first. The use of Scrum leads to intensive collaboration between development and requirements and test management. This allows release cycles to be shortened and new software to be made available more quickly. Materna supports the application of Scrum with coaching and consulting and utilises the process model in software development and project implementation.

Kanban is an agile method for evolutionary change management. In Kanban, all requirements for a software project are broken down into the smallest components and are also assigned a level of complexity. If this is too high, the requirement is sensibly reduced. This makes Kanban a very flexible method that can also be used to respond to new requirements at short notice. Every small step contributes to value creation. The development team focusses on the areas that make the greatest possible value contribution in small steps. This leads to a short time-to-market for new requirements. Another advantage is the high level of transparency regarding the development progress of the technical requirements, which can be viewed at any time on the Kanban board.

Materna realises complex development and IT projects for customers in business and administration. In addition to Scrum and Kanban, our experts apply the project management methods PRINCE2, IPMA/GPM and PMI. Materna is particularly experienced in programme and multi-project management. This includes all planning tasks in the overarching management, control and steering of several interrelated projects. We also provide support with tenders, take over the project organisation and advise on the project management methodology to be used. On request, we analyse the maturity level of our clients' project management and carry out quality audits.

With the help of our Business Process Management (BPM) methods, Materna analyses current processes in detail in customer projects and structures them in a technically oriented business architecture. Through process analysis, our experts identify optimisation potential and synergies for your business and administrative processes in order to make them more effective. Modelling the optimised processes is the first step towards requirements management that presents the requirements in detail and transparently. The traceable allocation of requirements to the process flow allows you to react quickly and flexibly to changes. Ultimately, the use of standardised notations, such as Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) or Decision Model and Notation (DMN), makes a significant contribution to noticeably reducing the gap between specialist departments and the IT organisation.

In design thinking workshops, we work with you in an open and active atmosphere to develop ideas and use cases for creating new services and optimising existing ones. The aim is to actively and comprehensively work on the design and improvement of your own business. In a second step, the ideas developed can be concretised in a design sprint for prototype implementation as part of a hackathon.

Rapid prototyping for fast results

We support you in evaluating innovative technologies and creating initial technological prototypes. As part of one- to two-day hackathons, we use rapid prototyping to implement the ideas developed in design thinking workshops, for example. Our experts will support you from brainstorming to the provision of coaches and premises to the complete realisation of a hackathon with Materna developers.

When are hackathons suitable?
  • Modernisation of current processes
  • Generating competitive advantages based on new technologies
  • Opening up new markets with innovative services
  • Time-saving evaluation of a new technology
  • Time and cost-saving opportunity to analyse alternative scenarios for the development and provision of IT services
  • Optimising the benefits of existing IT resources
