Over the past two years, all of the German Pension Insurance (DRV) websites have been migrated to the open-source version of the Government Site Builder, GSB 10. This migration project was successfully completed in collaboration with Materna. In addition to the DRV’s main website, the migration to the new central operating environment encompassed a further 30 clients with a total of over 50 websites. The IT service provider Materna supported the design and implementation of the technical infrastructure for this large-scale migration and gradually ported the websites of all DRV clients to the new central production environment.
Starting with the relaunch of the DRV’s main website just over two years ago, Materna had successfully migrated a further 30 clients of the German Pension Insurance by mid-2022. All existing websites were migrated from the CoreMedia-based GSB 6 to the open-source-based GSB 10.1, thereby completely replacing the commercial content management system.
The DRV deliberately adopts an open-source approach to the operation of its websites, as this offers the greatest possible flexibility and simplifies website management. With regard to website visitors, the focus was on creating a consistent user experience through a centralised solution for the websites.
The migrated websites of the DRV’s clients include the DRV’s main sites, as well as information and service websites for various target groups, websites with integrated specialist procedures, and complex websites with extensive content. These include, for example, information portals covering pensions, rehabilitation measures and prevention, as well as service websites such as ‘RV fit’ or the ‘Reha-Nachsorge’ service portal. Also included is the new clinic portal, which brings together the websites of 28 rehabilitation clinics under one roof; these have also undergone a comprehensive relaunch.
With a few exceptions – which were technically implemented using a bespoke design – the websites are aligned with the DRV’s corporate identity and visual language and are therefore recognisable as belonging to the organisation. Materna has developed a specific DRV standard solution, which forms the basis for updating all DRV websites.
Materna helped to set up the central production environment based on GSB 10.1 and played a leading role in supporting all processes, from the implementation of the infrastructure and operational concepts right through to the training of the DRV operations team. Whilst the DRV is responsible for the subject-matter-specific editorial management of the websites, Materna will continue to provide support in future and, together with the DRV, will continuously further develop the underlying infrastructure both functionally and technically.
Open-source GSB 10 for federal states and local authorities
GSB 10 is the first product line of the federal government’s content management solution to be based entirely on open-source components. Since June 2018, federal government agencies and institutions have been able to use GSB 10 free of licence fees. Under the so-called “Kiel Resolutions”, federal states and local authorities may also use the GSB.
