Materna launches the new website for the Federal Institute of Sports Science

Research and knowledge transfer for German elite sport

On 2 June, following a comprehensive relaunch, the new website of the Federal Institute for Sports Science (BISp) went live at www.bisp.de. The website is primarily aimed at a specialist audience and offers comprehensive information on sports science research, as well as support with applying for project funding in the field of elite sport. The IT service provider Materna developed the new website as a turnkey solution.

‘We support sport’ is the guiding principle of the Federal Institute of Sports Science, which, as a departmental research institution at the interface between sport, science and politics, is dedicated to promoting elite sport. Accordingly, the BISp website focuses on intensifying the transfer of expert knowledge in this field. Sports scientists and practitioners will find here not only comprehensive information and specialist knowledge on the main areas of research, but also detailed information on funding for scientific research projects in the field of elite sport. For the various types of projects, the application procedures are outlined and the relevant documents are made available.

User-friendly website with a fresh and modern look

In keeping with the theme, the new website features a fresh, sporty and dynamic design. The content is presented in an accessible and appealing manner. Built to contemporary standards, the website is accessible and responsive on mobile devices.

An overview on the homepage and direct access via the second-level menu guide users quickly to relevant content. The integrated keyword search allows users to search for terms, filtered by format, topic and publication date. Clear modules and content formats such as videos and interactive timelines convey the content very vividly. To present facts and figures, the BISp uses, for example, counters and the GSB’s chart function, which automatically converts data from a previously created table.

Everything from a single source

Materna developed the concept and design for the relaunch and technically implemented the website, with its bespoke functions, based on the Government Site Builder (GSB 7). The IT service provider also supported the Federal Institute with editorial assistance and oversaw the go-live process. The website is hosted by ITZBund.
