Materna joins the European cloud project GAIA-X

Expertise in the public sector, intelligent traffic management and mobility systems.

The European cloud project GAIA-X aims to establish a connected, open data infrastructure based on European values. However, GAIA-X is not intended to compete with the major cloud providers. Rather, the aim is to intelligently interconnect existing systems and their data using new software components. Materna is now a member of the international non-profit organisation GAIA-X AISBL (association internationale sans but lucratif, under Belgian law). The association will consolidate and facilitate the work and collaboration within the GAIA-X community.

The European GAIA-X project has set itself the goal of developing a sovereign, digital cloud infrastructure within which new business models and innovative solutions offering value-added services for businesses and citizens can be operated in future. GAIA-X takes into account the EU’s specific requirements regarding IT security and data protection. Materna will contribute its many years of specialist expertise as an IT service provider and solutions developer to the design of the so-called International Data Spaces, the virtual data spaces. Within this framework, Materna will develop specific application scenarios for GAIA-X, for example in the areas of the public sector, intelligent traffic management and mobility systems, and healthcare.

“GAIA-X is an exciting project aimed at establishing a sovereign and modern EU cloud, to which we will actively contribute our sector-specific solution expertise gained from previously implemented client solutions and funded projects,” says Martin Wibbe, CEO of the Materna Group.
