Materna is investing in ‘Digital Industry Solutions’

  • Holistic offering combines solutions and skills that drive sustainable digitalisation in industrial companies
  • Investment in a new cloud solution for logistics

The Materna Group has invested in its digitalisation portfolio for industrial clients. Under the name ‘Digital Industry Solutions’, existing services have been bundled, new market-relevant areas added, and an end-to-end offering for the sustainable transformation of industrial clients launched. This comprehensive offering addresses the biggest current challenges across all key areas of an industrial enterprise: from manufacturing through to the supply chain and logistics, right through to human resources, IT and controlling. Digital Industry Solutions is under the direct leadership of Martin Wibbe, CEO and Head of the Industries Division, and is expected to contribute over 50 million euros to the Materna Group’s turnover by 2025.

“With our Digital Industry Solutions, we help industrial companies proactively tackle the challenges of sustainable and digital transformation in a highly competitive and dynamic market environment,” explains Martin Wibbe. “Industrial companies must become more efficient and increase their resilience. They must also secure their long-term viability and create positive, seamless user experiences for customers and employees.” Materna’s sustainable, secure and service-oriented end-to-end offering is tailored to these four key challenges. In doing so, Materna works closely with an ecosystem of strategic partners, including hyperscalers, software manufacturers and specialist companies, to chart the best path to digital transformation for its clients. Key focus areas here are digital strategy consulting, improving the digital experience and employer experience, and supply chain optimisation.

Digital Strategy Consulting

Part of our end-to-end offering is consultancy on sustainable digital and data strategy, which, for example, supports industrial companies in further developing their business models, utilising existing data to create added value, and digitising their products themselves. Materna helps clients to explore ways of innovating their own business models and positioning themselves for the future. Using agile methods, Materna acts as a consultant and architect for data-driven and digital business models, processes and services.

As innovation and sustainability often go hand in hand, Materna also provides support on sustainability through consultancy and strategy development. From next year, for example, thousands of companies will be required to produce CSR reports. In this context, data and data quality are crucial in terms of accuracy, consistency and context to ensure successful reporting. This presents companies with the opportunity to utilise and establish ESG data as a key planning tool for long-term and sustainable growth.

Supply Chain Optimisation

Digitalisation has taken hold in the logistics sector. The Materna Group is addressing this with myleo / dsc, its own Process-as-a-Service solution for logistics and supply chain management. The platform simplifies logistics processes and manages supply chain networks in real time. “We have invested a double-digit million sum in the development of myleo / dsc. With this cloud-based solution, we are providing our logistics clients with significant support in making their supply chains more resilient,” reports Martin Wibbe. André Käber, founder of myleo / dsc, adds: “Our solution organises and automates the operational mapping of plant and transport logistics processes on a digital platform. This creates complete transparency throughout the entire supply chain, reduces the risks of disruption and improves collaboration between all supply chain partners.” All logistics processes can be customised. Companies such as Nordzucker, CropEnergies and home24 are already successfully using myleo / dsc in their logistics operations.

Digital Experience

Forward-looking companies offer their customers a consistent, personalised customer experience across all touchpoints. The foundation of a seamless customer experience is a central data platform and data architecture that maintains the customer history across all touchpoints, breaking down silos. The various silos can be integrated using a master data model. Materna implements complex, transactional integration solutions. A key objective of the solutions implemented is to ensure that the technical complexity involved in seamlessly orchestrating people and systems remains hidden from end customers.

Employee Experience

Skills shortages, the war for talent and demographic change have become widespread challenges for many companies. Digital Industry Solutions comprise a holistic offering for industrial companies, enabling them to find suitable staff faster than the competition, and provide HR managers with appropriate solution modules throughout the entire employee journey. The employee journey ranges from recruitment, retention and onboarding to the further training and development of staff. The offering includes, amongst other things, media consultancy, media production, digital learning and change communication using modern technologies. In addition to its own consultancy services and solutions, Materna will in future also incorporate services from partners into its offering, for example in the fields of deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as machine learning solutions for the HR sector, such as AI-based active sourcing. Deep learning (DL) helps HR departments to process large volumes of data using neural networks.

Software Factory as the backbone

At the heart of the digitalisation offering is the high-performance Software Factory, which has access to around 1,500 software developers in Germany and at nearshore locations within the Materna Group. This is where bespoke and often business-critical IT applications are developed based on high-performance cloud architectures. At the centre of this is the holistic Journey2Cloud offering, a modular package comprising consultancy and implementation services for all phases of a company’s transformation to the cloud.

Core IT competencies round off Digital Industry Solutions

Digital Industry Solutions are complemented, amongst other things, by a holistic cyber security offering. The most important component is Materna’s own Security Operations Centre (SOC). Just a few weeks ago, Materna further expanded its SOC offering by acquiring Radar Cyber Security, an established SOC specialist with over 100 clients. This makes the Materna Group the leading cyber security provider in the DACH region, offering an end-to-end portfolio comprising consultancy, analysis, proprietary software assets and services, whilst supporting companies in establishing a cyber resilience strategy.

Efficient digital workflows are at the heart of enterprise service management and are integral to modern industrial companies. Materna is the market-leading service provider for technologies from BMC, Micro Focus and ServiceNow, with well over 1,000 successfully completed client projects, several hundred service management specialists and the highest possible partner status in each case.

In addition, Materna operates the solutions, applications and services it has developed from a single source (hybrid, private and public cloud) – and, on request, also in its own data centre.

There is a synergistic collaboration with the subsidiaries belonging to the Materna Group: cbs Corporate Business Solutions (SAP consultancy for global enterprise solutions) and Trebing + Himstedt (consultants for digital transformation towards smart factories). With around 1,100 employees, cbs implements solutions for global and digital end-to-end business processes and draws on experience gained from more than 3,000 international projects.
