Materna is a top performer in AI-powered application development

In its latest “ISG Provider Lens” study, the renowned consultancy firm ISG has recognised Materna as one of the leading providers in the field of AI-powered application development.

“Materna’s strong specialisation in regulated sectors and the vertical integration of artificial intelligence position the company as a reliable ADM partner in Germany – underpinned by agile delivery, sector-specific architectures and transparent, AI-powered automation”, the analysts conclude.

The report highlights how consistently Materna integrates artificial intelligence throughout the entire Application Development & Management (ADM) lifecycle.

Code generation from natural language

The AI-supported process encompasses key development steps such as code generation from natural language, reviews and testing; it streamlines routine tasks in development processes, frees up time for creative and complex work, and shortens development times whilst improving software quality.

To make these benefits available to customers in highly regulated industries and the public sector, Materna also offers compliant coding assistants, such as AIDA at ITZ Bund.

“Being recognised as a ‘Leader’ confirms our ambition to be a driving force behind sovereign, secure and responsible AI development in Germany. We want to support public administration, critical infrastructure organisations and businesses in implementing digital solutions more quickly, securely and with greater autonomy,” said Materna CEO Michael Hagedorn. “With our Generative AI Factory, we are demonstrating how AI sustainably accelerates software development and improves its quality,” Michael Hagedorn continued.

Bringing expertise from the private sector to the KRITIS sector

“We are bringing our expertise from projects in the less heavily regulated private sector into the KRITIS sector and the public sector. Our many years of experience with sovereign infrastructures and application platforms helps us in this regard,” explains Marcus Rieks, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Transformation at Materna.

A particularly successful example of this is Materna’s ‘Generative AI Factory’, where AI-supported specialist applications – ranging from automated document processing and case management to voice and chat agents for public administration – are developed.

In addition to its technological innovation, ISG highlights Materna’s in-depth expertise in public administration, transport and regulated infrastructure sectors. All ADM services are tailored to the regulatory frameworks of these sectors and cover the entire software lifecycle.

Structured Software Factory

Another key factor in its success is Materna’s industrialised, agile delivery model, which combines a structured software factory with DevOps automation, continuous integration and test-driven development.

As an early adopter in the field of AI-supported software development, Materna consistently relies on intelligent automation in its development work. Generative AI has rapidly established itself as a productive tool within developer communities. Experts estimate that by 2027, around half of all software developers will be using AI-based tools. Materna is already one of the pioneers of this development: with in-house developments and market-leading tools, developers have access to assistance functions for code generation, structuring, automated testing and error correction.
