IT Insights at Girls’ Day 2022

On 28 April 2022, schoolgirls from Year 8 onwards can discover a wide range of careers in IT, the skilled trades, natural sciences and technology at the nationwide Girls’Day. Materna invites you to explore the digital world and offers interesting and surprising insights into the fields of work within an IT company. “Do you find computer science boring? Then come and join us!” – that’s the motto of the event at Materna.

On 28 April from 9.00 am to 2.30 pm, schoolgirls from Year 8 onwards will have the opportunity to get a taste of the IT world at Materna and learn about IT apprenticeships and degree courses. Girls’ Day, in which companies across Germany take part, serves as a career guidance initiative for schoolgirls, particularly for professions in which women are under-represented.

As part of Girls’ Day 2022, female colleagues at Materna will provide an insight into their areas of work. For example, they will explain how companies protect themselves against hackers, how to design a good online shop, how digital learning works, and how companies can boost sales using social media.

In the practical part of the event, the colleagues will demonstrate that you don’t have to be a computer whizz to get involved in exciting and forward-looking projects at an IT company. The pupils will learn more about the development of gaming apps and, amongst other things, how to programme an Android app. Alternatively, they will design and build a traffic light circuit using a Raspberry Pi.

The event is rounded off with tips on writing effective job applications, as well as information that is important for school work placements or apprenticeships.
