3,000 employees: Materna continues on its growth trajectory

High staff satisfaction leads to a record number of new hires: Materna creates over 500 new jobs.

The Materna IT group is well on track with its ‘Mission 2025’ growth strategy, launched last year, and has now welcomed its 3,000th employee. Over 500 new jobs have been created for 2022. Last year alone, the group grew by a record 470 new employees. Nationwide, Materna ranks among the top five employers in the IT sector (Stern/Statista ranking) and specialises in digitalisation projects.

The current year is set to be another record year. By the end of the year, Materna aims to grow to 3,500 employees. The planned new hires are spread across all business divisions. The Public Sector division, which carries out a wide range of digitalisation projects for prominent federal and state authorities, is planning a particularly large number of new recruits. “We are investing heavily in staff recruitment and development and aim to grow to 5,000 employees by 2025,” says Martin Wibbe, CEO of the Materna Group.

Last year, the workforce grew by 470 employees, including over 90 trainees – more than ever before. October was the month with the highest number of new hires, with around 100 new recruits.

Attractive working environment

“Applicants choose us because we offer both experienced professionals and those starting their careers a varied working environment, as various employer rankings clearly demonstrate. Experienced professionals work on challenging projects for well-known clients. As a company, we place great emphasis on high-quality, technologically advanced results, and that is precisely what matters most to many IT professionals,” says Head of Human Resources Martin Brochhaus. Materna helps graduates ease into working life with a range of trainee programmes covering different specialisations. These programmes bridge the gap between academic study and practical work, teach soft skills and quickly introduce new colleagues to roles with greater responsibility. Last year, over 90 new recruits opted for the popular trainee programmes.

Over 50 per cent of new hires are spread across locations such as Berlin, Cologne and Munich. “We only recruit around 50 per cent of our new colleagues at our headquarters in Dortmund. We are working hard to ensure balanced growth across all locations, which also allows us to respond very flexibly to applicants’ preferred places of work,” says HR Director Brochhaus. Even in the second year of the coronavirus pandemic, over 90 per cent of Materna’s staff are currently working from home.

Materna ranks 5th in Stern’s employer ranking

In Stern’s latest ranking for the ‘IT and Telecommunications’ sector, Materna has come 5th amongst the most popular employers. Amongst all 650 companies recognised, Materna ranks in the top 100, specifically in 89th place. Last summer, Stern magazine and the market research firm Statista surveyed more than 50,000 employees to ask whether they would recommend their own employer and other companies in their sector as places to work. Thanks to this broad data set and the methodology used, Stern’s ranking is one of the most significant employer rankings in Germany.
