We’ve arrived! – Materna can now be found at its new address

Just under two years after the foundation stone was laid, Materna’s head office has finally opened at Robert-Schuman-Straße 20 in Dortmund. The first staff members have already moved into their workspaces in the new premises. But there was a lot to do before the move.

We are delighted to be able to present our new building on the Phoenix-West site in its entirety. This impressive structure stands on the former Hoesch site, a symbol of Dortmund’s industrial history. Where steel was once smelted, there now stands a modern and sustainable building that is ushering Materna into a new era. With seven storeys, 3,700 windows and 31 kitchenettes, the building offers space for 1,800 employees across 20,000 square metres. Every detail, from the spacious offices to the cosy kitchenettes, has been carefully planned to create a pleasant working atmosphere.

Our new home meets the requirements of the KfW40 programme and consequently consumes 60 per cent less energy than conventional building methods. A state-of-the-art photovoltaic system supplies both the building and the 300 outdoor parking spaces with sustainable energy. Surplus energy is stored in an innovative ice storage system and used for cooling when required. In total, there are approximately 400 parking spaces in the multi-storey car park and 300 spaces in the outdoor car park. There are at least 150 bicycle parking spaces to promote environmentally friendly mobility.

A particular milestone was the planting of a swamp oak, over 40 years old, in the courtyard of our new building. On 13 April, this symbolic tree, which is as old as Materna itself, was spectacularly hoisted into the courtyard. This oak symbolises endurance, strength, growth and sustainability, and underlines our deep connection to the Dortmund region. The accessible courtyard, featuring the oak tree, three boules courts and further recreational areas, invites people to linger. In addition, the new building offers two fitness rooms to support our staff’s work-life balance. The new workspaces have been designed to be versatile: from standard offices to agile meeting rooms and project rooms, right through to retreat offices and think tanks – there is a suitable environment for every way of working. Particularly noteworthy is the shared-desk concept, which enables flexible and modern ways of working and promotes collaboration.

Our new premises also offer breathtaking views of the nearby BVB stadium and are situated in the immediate vicinity of many exciting companies and innovation drivers. Phoenix-West, once a stronghold of heavy industry, has developed into a vibrant hub for technology and innovation. Numerous start-ups and established companies operating in the fields of IT, engineering and sustainability are based here. The proximity to Phoenix Lake, a popular recreational area in Dortmund, also offers our staff the chance to spend their breaks or evenings in green surroundings and find a balance between work and relaxation.

We are particularly looking forward to welcoming guests to our new building once the final construction work has been completed. Whether for meetings, events or simply a visit – we look forward to our first discussions with our customers and partners at the new location.
