What is the Common Connector of the "AgIN" data room initiative all about?

The Agricultural Electronics Foundation (AEF) supports its members - leading agricultural machinery manufacturers - with expertise and resources to promote the use of electronic systems in agriculture. A key issue here is the development and implementation of international standards for data exchange and the networking of machines and digital platforms.

With the Agricultural Interoperability Network (AgIN) initiative, the AEF is now pursuing the goal of promoting the networking of cloud platforms within the industry. The so-called Common Connector enables OEMs to exchange data between their existing cloud solutions without having to develop individual interfaces or new systems. Each party involved retains its own platform, but can access the services of other AgIN participants.

This standardised connection significantly improves interoperability - to the benefit of end users, i.e. farmers. The Common Connector is therefore a central element in the realisation of the AgIN data network.

In the AgIN Dataspace, a decentralised network designed to promote interoperability in agriculture. At the heart of this ecosystem is the Common Connector, a software component developed in collaboration with Materna that makes integration simple, secure and standardised for all participants. Are you curious about how this technology opens up new possibilities for smarter, more collaborative farming?

The aim of AgIN

AgIN creates a decentralised, secure data space (AgIN Dataspace) that enables seamless peer-to-peer data exchange between different agricultural systems. This is intended to promote efficiency, scalability and new use cases.

The Common Connector

The Common Connector is the central software module that simplifies integration into the AgIN Data Space. It offers:

  • Platform and service recognition
  • Secure data exchange (OAuth, OpenID Connect)
  • Scalability
  • Containerised provisioning

Practical use cases

Examples of use:

  • Machine and asset tracking
  • Cross-platform documentation
  • Task and resource management

Advantages for stakeholders

For companies:

  • Faster time to market
  • Lower integration costs
  • Access to a larger partner network

For technology managers:

  • Containerised architecture
  • Good documentation and security features
  • Future-proof scalability

Conclusion

Materna supports the AEF as a development and consulting partner. Nine industry partners are already using the solution successfully - a clear sign of increasing acceptance in the sector.
