Migration strategies

We support you from the cloud readiness check to productive operation.

Application Migration

Many companies are already using cloud services. Many paths lead to the cloud. But which is the right one for your requirements? We support you in migrating your applications to the cloud and advise you on the requirements and environments for which rehosting, replatforming, repurchasing or refactoring are best suited.

Which migration strategy will you choose?

With rehosting or lift & shift, virtual and physical systems, applications and data are migrated largely unchanged. This process is used for disaster recovery scenarios, for example, or when no other option is practical or feasible for technical or licence reasons. However, this has the disadvantage that the advantages of cloud-native apps and services, such as fast and high scalability, cannot be utilised.

Replatforming is an extended lift & shift in which the basic architecture does not change, e.g. the same applications or databases remain in use but are reinstalled on new virtual systems and only the data is replicated. The advantages are a high level of automation and standardisation in the cloud. However, this approach has the disadvantage that the advantages of cloud-native apps and services, such as fast and high scalability, cannot be utilised.

With repurchasing, the services are used by the provider (SaaS). You no longer need to worry about operating the operating system and the application. This approach reduces operating costs. High availability, disaster recovery and automation are handled by the provider, the "pay-as-you-use" principle for resources and licences can be better utilised and the entire spectrum of the provider can be used. Here, companies must pay particular attention to data protection and compliance with the provider.

In order to utilise the full benefits of the cloud, it is often necessary to redevelop the software as a cloud-native solution rather than just replicating and converting systems and data. This approach makes companies flexible and agile when making changes, services can be exchanged more easily and the solutions are more available and scalable. Here, too, companies must pay particular attention to the issues of data protection and compliance with the provider.
