Materna presents its IoT solutions at the Hanover Trade Fair

In Internet of Things (IoT), everything is connected

location Dortmund, Date 2018.04.12

The IT consulting company Materna will present its solutions portfolio for IoT at Hanover Fair from 23 to 27 April, 2018. Materna will be exhibiting at stand A10 in hall 16 on the joint stand of the Ministry of Economics, Innovation, Digitization and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Materna combines various IT components into a uniform IoT solution scenario that can be used in the areas of production, maintenance and after sales. Materna connects the sensors embedded in devices and machines with the handling of service tickets, e.g. when repairs and maintenance are required. As a result, data can be reported or registered, passed on and processed using a service management solution. Assembly and repair instructions are supplemented by augmented reality, e.g. in 3D, so that service staff can call up additional technological details for complicated repairs. Instructions are displayed graphically via virtual objects. At the Hanover Fair, Materna will use a miniature edition of a MAN truck as an example to demonstrate the processes involved in this IoT scenario. Many other application scenarios are conceivable.

Materna offers a full service package of business process analysis, technology consulting, development of prototypes and concept studies, feasibility studies, cloud integration, visualization and software development on the way to IoT.

New wireless technologies are inspiring IoT: LPWAN and eSIM

LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) is a radio technology that uses little energy and inexpensive components. It ensures that IoT sensors and actuators can become more mobile and less expensive. Due to the high range and penetration, completely new approaches are possible, e.g. room monitoring with regard to light, temperature and humidity in server rooms or the reading of electricity meter data. Materna provides consulting, prototyping and software development for the new radio technology as well as the development of business models around IoT.

Another technology that inspires the IoT is eSIM. It provides an alternative to conventional SIM cards. SIM cards are not the top choice for industrial applications such as those typically found in the IoT sector. This is where eSIM comes into play: It is an integrated chip that performs all the functions of a SIM card. Besides its much smaller size, its great advantage is that the provider data can be changed remotely without any problems. This makes it possible to change providers without having to exchange SIM cards. With eSIM technology, Materna addresses manufacturers of IoT devices and automotive suppliers who want to reduce the costs of their mobile communication infrastructure. Together with its partner COMPRION, Materna offers simulations and tests as well as an eSIM platform. eSIM technology is already used in cars, intelligent energy meters, tracking devices, some smart watches, eBook readers and navigation devices.
